March 10th 2010 - Derek White, Golf Instructor
After being introduced to golf, albeit at a relatively late age, I found myself immersed in a sport in a way I had never been before. I felt that I had found my calling.
I began my journey as a cart and range attendant at Fairfax National Golf Club. There I quickly moved into a staff position in the Pro Shop and dedicated myself to learning the inner workings of a golf course. Not long after that promotion, I became an Assistant Golf Professional -- where I helped run junior golf camps, among other tasks, throughout the Summer.
It wasn't long before I received an offer as an Assistant Golf Professional at Stonewall Golf Club. At Stonewall, I realized my love for teaching. I found myself overjoyed running junior golf camps and giving personal private lessons to juniors. I enjoyed teaching so much that I soon packed my bags and headed to Orlando, Florida.
In Florida, I attended Golf Academy of America (GAA) where I studied under the instruction of six PGA Professionals. Day in and day out at GAA, I studied the history of golf, fine-tuned my own game, and in the end, received my Advanced Teaching certification. I also received my Club Fitting and Club Repair Certifications. Upon completing my tenure at GAA, I moved back to northern Virginia with high hopes of starting my own golf instruction program; thus, Derek White Golf Instruction was born. It is with great pleasure that I continue to teach golf in and around the northern Virginia area to players of all ages!
